Looking forward - looking back

In my last news I reported on my exploration of a process to develop compositions based on a Jenny Nelson short course. It was fun to do and I think I created 14, 30x30cm black and white compositional ideas. These began with random mark making on papers that were cut into rough squares, reassembled, then collaged to create pleasing?? compositions.

The next challenge was to create paintings based on these. I finished 3, two 60cm and one 50cm square.

What follows are for the 3; the black and white composition, an early stage and the final work. I will probably revisit them at some stage as I tend to do!

I used 3 colours; Indian yellow, alizarin crimson and ultramarine blue only with a touch of black.

I am working on another set using a different palette of lemon yellow, magenta and sapphire (dark blue green). The colours aren’t working out as I thought they would but I will persevere.

Planning is underway for ‘exhibition season’ from August until October. There are 4 major exhibitions. It’s great to support the local charity shows but hard to juggle (up to 11) entries when 3 exhibitions are on about the same time. My doctor clinics changeovers are in early July and September as well.

I hope I have time for painting too!

Apart from gardening, my other great interest is family history. I have been assembling my family tree for about 35 years and will soon have it available online to share with anyone interested for free. So much to do!!
