Subject: November 24

Overwhelmed with flowers

Highlights in October included two sales. One, a small work titled Opal light, at the Tasmanian Art Society’s Industrial exhibition and the second, a large painting Rising mist at the Kingborough Art Prize show. I met this buyer and was inspired and motivated to see her joy and excitement at her purchase.

Rising mist measures 96cm x 66cm.

My series project continues. After preparing several studies for four series I embarked on another around the theme of florals/gardens. I merged the two required stages together because I still don’t know how to do a ‘study’ using oil and wax when the process is meant to be intuitive.  I have almost finished seven painting, of which I am reasonably satisfied with three. They have become quite textured with the multiple layers.

Needing a break from these, I have turned back to the previous series which was about abstracted landscapes. I had finished this set with two much more soft and atmospheric; in an unusual colour palette for me. I quite liked these so have now embarked on 5 more. They reflect the feeling of a misty mountain and native deciduous beech the fagus (which changes colour in the autumn here in Tasmania). As yet untitled

While all this has been happening, I deviated as is my wont, starting and finishing two realistic land/seascapes. It helps my confidence to occasionally work in this manner. It is much easier than abstract work.  I have two exhibitions early next year for these.  The first is #1060 Port Cygnet from Burtons Reserve and #1061 Safety Cove 2. We visited this remarkable spot on the way to Remarkable Cave again in September.  Cape Pillar and Tasman Island are in the distance.

In early December I will rotate my painting exhibitions in the doctors’ practices, introducing a new set of florals, a few of which are at the framers and I have are large one to mount here in my studio.

I appreciate your interest in my art practice.

Thank you
