plein air oil paintings
I have been an occasional plein air painter for many years and challenged by the issues one has to deal with when painting outdoors; from choosing a subject, dealing with the weather (cold, wind, rain and often all three), selecting a medium and dealing with frustration and disappointment when the final painting or drawing is less the successful. I used ink and watercolour for a long while. Inspired by Rick Crossland, a local artist, I decided to make a more concerted effort. I looked at the barriers and set about minimising them, purchased a new light weight but very stable portable easel and a pull along beach trolly. I attended outdoor work shops with a group lead by Rick which increased by confidence to do more in this genre.
